    Abstract
This research explores why there is a public education shortage of teachers. It explains what causes a teacher shortage. The literature review was derived primarily from peer-review papers located in the Granite State College library. Statistical data was collected from industry government websites. This research included a survey of human resource directors in Vermont public education. The research explains where the teacher shortages are most predominant. The literature highlights ways to mitigate the attrition of teachers. The literature shares short-term, as well as long-term solutions to the shortage of public education teachers.
