dc.description | The Portsmouth International Airport has limited aircraft rental opportunities. There are many pilots in the seacoast area who would like access to a recreational aircraft without the financial burden of individual aircraft ownership. The Granite State Flying Club was established to meet this need. Pilots were recruited into the club from the local area and provided the capital to fund the aircraft purchase. They volunteered their time to complete the project work. The critical lesson learned from this project was how to manage and motivate volunteers towards the vision while staying within the parameters of scope, budget and schedule. The club has 20 members who co-own and operate a single-engine aircraft. The members pay monthly dues and can schedule the use of the aircraft through a web based scheduling program. The initial success of the club has raised even more interest within the flying community opening future growth opportunities. | |
