Since 2010, vulnerability has been a topic more popularized by Dr. Brené Brown. Her TED Talk, The Power of Vulnerability, followed by several books of hers have offered a different perspective on personal vulnerability and how we lead in various arenas. Through researching Brown’s extensive work on vulnerability and courage along with other literature, this research project will review vulnerability and how it relates to individual leadership styles, trust, and gender. A survey of 80+ higher education professionals will explore their perception of vulnerability, the relationship between their reported vulnerability levels and leadership style (authentic, ethical, or transformational).
